Carnivores, take note: your diet might be affecting more than just your health. A 2006 study published in *Chemical Senses* revealed that red meat consumption can significantly impact body odor. Participants who eliminated red meat from their diet were perceived as having a more pleasant, less intense, and generally more attractive body odor compared to those who consumed it regularly.


2. Apples and Claustrophobia


Feeling cramped in a small space? Try the scent of a green apple. Alan Hirsch, MD, from the Smell & Taste Treatment and Research Center, discovered in 1995 that the aroma of green apples can make confined spaces feel larger. Interestingly, cucumbers have a similar effect, whereas barbecue smoke tends to make spaces feel even more cramped.

3. Fat Loss and Lungs


Ever wondered how fat exits your body? Surprisingly, most of it leaves through your lungs. A 2014 study in the *British Medical Journal* found that about 84% of the fat you burn is converted into carbon dioxide and exhaled. The remaining 16% is turned into water and exits through sweat, urine, and other bodily fluids.

Humans are the only animals with chins. While other creatures have jaws, only humans have a distinct chin. The exact reason for this feature remains unclear, but one theory suggests that chins might aid in chewing.

Some people have an extra bone in their knee known as the fabella. This small, enigmatic bone was once rare but has become increasingly common in recent decades. A 2019 study in the *Journal of Anatomy* humans were nearly 3.5 times more likely to have a fabella in 2000 than in 1900.

Did you know that more than half of your bones are located in your hands and feet? Out of the 206 bones in the human body, 27 are in each hand and 26 in each foot, totaling 106 bones in these complex structures.

7. Heels and Decision-Making


Wearing high heels might actually improve your decision-making. A 2013 study published in the *Journal of Marketing Research* found that people who wore heels while shopping were better at making balanced decisions and avoiding big purchases. This phenomenon, known as the equilibrium effect, also applies to people who have recently done yoga.


8. Roller Coasters and Kidney Stones


If you’re struggling with a kidney stone, a roller coaster ride might be the solution. Research from Michigan State University in 2016 found that riding a rough, quick coaster like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Walt Disney World had a 64% success rate in passing kidney stones for those in the back seat, compared to only 16% for those in the front.

9. Fingernail Growth and Dominance


Fingernails grow faster on your dominant hand. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, nails on your dominant hand and on your larger fingers tend to grow quicker. Additionally, nails grow faster during the daytime and summer months.


10. Birthday Mortality


It might be worth considering a low-key celebration: a 2012 study in the *Annals of Epidemiology* found that people are 13.8% more likely to die on their birthday compared to any other day of the year. The study, which analyzed Swiss mortality data, found that these deaths were often due to heart and brain diseases, suicide, and accidents.


11. Toilet Time vs. Exercise

On average, adults spend more time on the toilet than exercising. A 2017 study by UKActive found that the average adult spends about 3 hours and 9 minutes per week in the bathroom, compared to just 1 hour and 30 minutes of physical activity.
