Unveiled during Issey Miyake’s Spring/Summer 2024 runway show in Paris last October, the Japanese label's inaugural collaboration with New Balance now has an official release date.
Named the Issey Miyake × New Balance MT10O, this initial venture is the result of a partnership with Issey Miyake designer Satoshi Kondo, who drew inspiration from the ideas of tactile physicality and the freedom of barefoot movement.

Issey Miyake describes the sneaker as being influenced by New Balance's MT10 trail running line, which aims to mimic the feeling of barefoot running while ensuring adequate protection and grip for terrain-based activities.
The model falls under New Balance’s Minimus line, noted for its minimal padding and ground-level design to enhance the natural running experience. Launched in 2011, the design caters to the rising interest in minimalist running footwear, reflecting the popularity of less-is-more in athletic shoe tech during that period.

A detailed examination of the MT10 design reveals a joint logo on the insole, a combination of breathable mesh and soft, premium leather on the upper, and slender, cord-like laces. Durability is provided by the abrasion-resistant rubber on the vamp strap and foxing, and the outsole includes pronounced rubber shapes from Vibram for superior traction across diverse landscapes. Each pair will be packaged with a distinctive shoe case and original box.
Notably, the sneaker is designed for a tight fit to minimize foot movement on rough terrain. The oblique-shaped NL1 last offers a spacious toe box for toe flexibility, and the 4mm low drop supports a midfoot landing.
Past collaborations for Issey Miyake have included projects with United Nude and Native Shoes. This latest addition enriches New Balance's broad range of collaborative designs, which features partnerships with Miu Miu, Auralee, Junya Watanabe, Aimé Leon Dore, among others.
The Issey Miyake × New Balance MT10O will be available in three colors: white, black, and blue-green. It hits selected stores in Japan on Wednesday, May 15, and will roll out globally at selected outlets starting Friday, June 14.

BOSTON — Will the Eastern Conference produce a team capable of truly challenging the Celtics?
In their initial second-round matchup, the Cleveland Cavaliers attempted to rise to the occasion but fell short. Despite a 33-point performance from All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell, the rest of the team couldn't muster enough support in Game 1 at TD Garden on Tuesday night. While such efforts may have surpassed the Orlando Magic, against Boston — who triumphed 120-95 — they were insufficient.
