The quaint town of North Rustico, nestled on the northern shore of Prince Edward Island in Canada, is known for its warm, neighborly atmosphere. Here, everyone greets each other with a friendly nod or wave, a testament to the town's close-knit community.
This pervasive friendliness seems to have extended beyond human residents.
One day, a local resident, Lisa Sandoval, was walking along the waterfront when she heard a voice call out, "Hello! Hello!" Turning around, she found no one in sight. Puzzled and slightly unnerved, Sandoval heard the voice again. "I got a little scared, then thought to myself, ‘Am I hearing things?’” she recalled.
To her surprise, the source of the greeting was a crow perched nearby. “I stopped and said, ‘Hello?’ And to my shock, he answered me back. ‘Hello! Hello!’” Sandoval recounted.

Sandoval soon discovered that she wasn’t the only person in town who had encountered this talking crow. According to local lore, the bird had been found injured years ago and nursed back to health by an elderly man who often spoke to him during his recovery. Once the crow was well, the man set him free, and the bird had since learned to say "hello."
Months after their initial encounter, Sandoval met the crow again, this time managing to capture his greeting on video. “He talks but doesn’t caw,” she explained, dubbing him the "Hello Crow."
Crows, like parrots, have the remarkable ability to mimic human speech. If the stories of his origin are accurate, the crow’s voice likely mirrors that of the kind old man who nursed him back to health. Though the man has passed away, his legacy endures in the form of this talkative bird. “[The crow] is popular here in North Rustico. He is around a lot, [but] I am one of the only people who have been able to capture him on video talking. He is so funny,” Sandoval noted.
The Hello Crow has become a beloved figure in North Rustico, a symbol of the town's unique charm and warmth. His story is a heartwarming reminder of the unexpected connections that can form between humans and wildlife, and how kindness can leave a lasting impact, transcending even species boundaries.

It’s that time of the year when you may be booking a plane ticket, securing a hotel reservation, and researching the best spots to go on an upcoming vacation. If you’re getting ready to take your suitcase out of the closet and plan out what to pack, I have some recommendations to shop. With some upcoming beach vacations this summer, I’ve been thinking about the swimwear that I’ll be investing in, whether it is one of the big trends of the season or a classic one-piece.
In that realm, I’ve also been researching the best swimsuit cover-ups. Right now, we are seeing them play out in a number of ways. Tried-and-true options like linen shirts, knit dresses, and sarongs continue to be popular and versatile styling options. On the other side of the spectrum, we’re seeing the emergence of colorful crochet polos which are guaranteed to be one of the most in-demand buys for summer. Ahead, the best beach cover-ups to add to your summer wardrobe.
